This Five Dock project transformed a semi-open sunroom into a practical BBQ preparation and entertaining area. A compact Noxwell KSSV-4444 stainless steel sink and a brushed pull-out kitchen mixer were integrated beside the built-in barbecue, keeping water, preparation and clean-up within one sheltered outdoor zone.
A sheltered BBQ area connected to the garden
The existing sunroom sits between the brick home and rear garden, giving the owners weather protection without losing the feeling of outdoor entertaining. Operable glass louvres and a wide opening allow light and air into the room, while the roof and enclosed service wall protect the cabinetry, benchtop and preparation area.
The BBQ, sink and storage were arranged along one continuous run. This keeps the centre of the sunroom open for dining and circulation, and gives the cook a clear working sequence from preparation to grilling and clean-up.
The BBQ area needed reliable washing and rinsing capacity without sacrificing the benchtop required for platters, ingredients and serving. The square KSSV-4444 provides a useful bowl while leaving generous landing space on both sides.
Why the KSSV-4444 suited this BBQ kitchen
Compact square footprint
At 440 × 440mm overall, the sink fits neatly into the auxiliary kitchen run and maintains a balanced relationship with the larger built-in BBQ.
Practical bowl capacity
The approximately 390 × 390mm internal bowl and 205mm depth provide room for rinsing utensils, washing serving pieces and cleaning barbecue accessories.
Brushed stainless finish
The sink visually connects with the stainless barbecue and mixer while remaining straightforward to clean after food preparation and entertaining.
Efficient bench allocation
Using a compact sink preserves the surrounding stone surface for preparation, serving and temporary landing space during gatherings.
A pull-out mixer for flexible clean-up
The brushed stainless steel pull-out mixer extends the useful reach of the compact sink. Its high-arc profile provides clearance over the bowl, while the retractable spray head helps rinse the sink corners, fill containers and clean barbecue tools without increasing the sink footprint.
The matching metal finish keeps the sink and tap visually quiet beside the larger BBQ. Rather than competing for attention, the fixtures support the overall architecture and maintain the practical character of the room.
Planning the wet zone beside a BBQ
The sink cabinet was positioned away from the hottest part of the cooking zone while remaining close enough for an efficient workflow. Benchtop space between the BBQ and sink creates a useful preparation and landing area, and the cabinet below keeps plumbing contained within the joinery run.
For semi-open rooms, material selection and detailing must respond to changing temperature, ventilation and possible wind-driven moisture. The final installation should always be coordinated with the joiner, benchtop fabricator, licensed plumber and the BBQ manufacturer’s required clearances.

The finished project gives the homeowners a dedicated place to cook, serve and entertain throughout the year. The compact KSSV-4444 and pull-out mixer add the functionality needed for a secondary kitchen while preserving the open benchtop and uncluttered layout that make the sunroom comfortable to use.
